Office ergonomics consultation

Our stone age ancestors to refined offices, sinking into screens of computers. But has this been healthy?

The answer is, No.

We sit tirelessly in our offices, in uncomfortable chairs which only makes it even more difficult. This discomfort then leads to health problems, with muscle aches and then a series of medical conditions.

This does sound scary, but working is of course a part of life. So, now what?

To improve the working conditions, to make it suitable for your comfort, there is always ergonomics.

what is Ergonomics?

Ergonomics is a study or technique which focuses on designing products and systems, keeping human physiology and psychology in mind.

In a nutshell, it means adjusting the products and services, like chairs for instance to suit the comfort of humans.

Office Ergonomics, therefore, is very important since it is the one place where we are constantly sitting, without much movement.

Why should you focus on Office Ergonomics?

Office ergonomics is very essential because almost half of our day is spent sitting at one place in our workplace. This means we spend most of our active years sitting and working.

Therefore, it can have a very negative effect on our body and can lead to a number of musculoskeletal disorders.

➢ Let’s see how badly poor ergonomics affects us;
1. Muscle weakness and tightness.
2. Bones and joints experience discomfort which evidently leads to pain.
3. Poor posture can lead to serious disorders such as arthritis.
4. Mental irritation and fatigue.
5. Neck sprains and Back sprains can have a harmful effect on your spine.
6. Digestion problems.

➢ Tips and tricks:
a. While purchasing a chair, make sure to check the adjustability of its height such that Hip and knee are in the same line and the feet rest on the floor.
b. Level the desk, so as to be able to place your arms comfortably at 90° without slouching or adjusting them.
c. Make sure that the seat of the chair is comfortable and not sunken in.
d. The keyboard tray should be spacious enough to accommodate the mouse and keyboard without cluttering.
e. The mouse you use for the computer should be sensitive and easy to slide around, without causing much pressure on the arm.
f. The top of the screen should be at the eye level.

There is a lot more to office ergonomics that cannot be accommodated in one blog itself. To know exactly how to set up your office in detail and to discuss any doubts you have about improving your office ergonomics, we make office visits for ergonomic consultation. This involves assessing and making ergonomically friendly all employee-frequented areas such as conference rooms, cafeteria, restrooms, and the most important: workstations.
