About the service

What is an online physiotherapy consultation?

An online physiotherapy consultation is a video call with a physiotherapist. During the appointment your physiotherapist will assess your movement, range of motion and posture, and work with you to design a suitable home exercise and progress review plan.

The online consultation offers the same level of care and attention as an in-clinic assessment, with the convenience of being able to conduct it from your own home. It is a practical option for residents of South Mumbai who want to get an assessment and begin treatment without travelling to the clinic.

It became an important part of TheraCure's physiotherapy services during the Covid-19 pandemic, and has remained popular since — both for patients who cannot easily reach the clinic and for those who simply prefer an at-home assessment.

The process

How an online physiotherapy consultation works

Five stages, from booking your slot through to the maintenance plan that keeps your progress.

Book your slot

Choose a suitable time with a physiotherapist via Book an Appointment or WhatsApp.

Complete a brief history form

Tell us the nature of your complaint, along with any past relevant reports and medications.

Your video call

Your physiotherapist observes and questions you regarding your movement, range of motion and posture.

Review and revise

Your plan is reviewed and revised regularly depending on your progress until your goals are achieved, then a maintenance plan is designed so those gains are not lost.

Before you start

What you need for the call

Nothing specialised — if you can make a video call, you can attend the consultation.

A device with a camera

A reliable internet connection so the assessment is not interrupted.

Zoom or WhatsApp Video

Whichever video calling application you are most comfortable with.

Getting ready

How to prepare for your appointment

A few minutes of preparation makes the assessment considerably more accurate.

  • Log in from a laptop, smartphone or tablet with a working camera and a stable internet connection
  • Wear well-fitted clothing that allows your physiotherapist to observe the affected joint clearly
  • Keep relevant reports or scans — X-ray, MRI and similar — and your medications close by to review during the call
  • Have a family member present if your ability to move is limited
  • Prepare a clear space to sit and stand in

After the call

What happens following your appointment

After your online physiotherapy consultation you will have a take-home exercise and stretching folder to refer to, and your progress and physiotherapy plan will be reviewed at every follow-up appointment.

Once you are fit and have successfully completed your recovery, we design a maintenance physiotherapy plan to ensure your pain and discomfort are not triggered again.

You need a smartphone, tablet or laptop with a working camera and an internet connection, and the video calling application of your choice — WhatsApp Video or Zoom.

An average session lasts 30 to 45 minutes, including assessment and discussion of your home physiotherapy plan and review of your progress.

The online consultation is ideal for posture assessment, movement analysis, and designing and reviewing an individualised physiotherapy plan. For manual therapy and electrotherapy treatments, and in the case of acute presentations, in-clinic physiotherapy is advised.

The video consultation is a useful tool, but it is not right for every patient or condition, and we would rather say so openly. In-clinic physiotherapy is advised where a hands-on assessment is required:

Manual therapies of the joints and muscles; electrotherapy and related procedures such as ultrasound, contrast bath and cryotherapy; myofascial release with instruments, dry needling and cupping; red flag symptoms or acute conditions; and physical treatment following surgery, which often requires hands-on rehabilitation.

If you present with any of these we will advise you to book an appointment at TheraCure in Charni Road, South Mumbai, which offers the full range of in-clinic physiotherapy treatments. Many patients book a video consultation first and come in for in-clinic treatment afterwards, or the other way round. Physiotherapy care should be individualised to suit your condition, lifestyle and preferences.

Yes. Posture assessment, movement analysis and designing an individualised physiotherapy plan for postural correction, back pain and neck pain are some of the most common reasons patients book a video consultation with TheraCure.
