Our body is made up of trillions of little thread-like structures that are spread throughout the entire body. These structures are commonly referred to as Nerves. A nerve is something that connects our brain with all the different muscles, organs, tissues, and other parts of the body. Therefore, it can be considered an essential network for normal functioning or functioning at all.
Any injury caused to this structure can therefore result in numbness of the connected parts, pain, and even muscle atrophy. These are the Symptoms of a Nerve Injury.
A Nerve Injury is an injury caused to any nerve in the body. This injury can be caused due to extreme strain or even a violent hit. The injury could also be caused because of infections and tumours and can also be inherited.
Since our nerves are the only structures connecting us to the conscious mind, any injury to it can have painful effects. A Few Symptoms include Numbness, Pain, Loss of Balance and sometimes could lead to Muscle Paralysis.
How does a nerve injury impact function ?
When a nerve gets severed, it can impact the muscles which it innervates causing atrophy, weakness, contractures and deformities.
Nerves have the ability to heal / regenerate although this might take months on end. But until then it causes damage to the stable functioning of the affected part. This is something that should not be overlooked since it can be a sign of an underlying medical condition.
As we mentioned above, there are different ways to treat nerve injury and suppress its damage, in this blog, we’re going to talk about physiotherapy as a treatment.
